Physician Office Specimen Requirements

Order once for 1 to 3 obstetric specimens submitted at the same time.

 

Patient should not receive vitamin C or ascorbic acid for 3 days prior to occult blood testing. Avoid aspirin and other non-sterodial anti-inflammatory drugs 7 days prior to and during test period.

 

Submit unpreserved fresh stool (dime-size portion) on Hemoccult® slide with aliquot in a HEMOC3, or in a screw-capped, sterile container. Patient may use SaranTM Wrap to catch specimen. (Specimen contaminated with urine, improper collection, or specimen on outside of container is not acceptable.) Label container with patient’s full name, date of birth or medical record number, location of patient, and date and time of collection. Maintain sterility and forward promptly. Send specimen refrigerated.
